2007 Coquitlam Foundation Grants
In 2006/2007, the Coquitlam Foundation distributed $29,500 in grants and bursaries, including $11,800 in LEAD money (Leadership, Engagement and Development) from the Vancouver Foundation. The following are the recipients of grants from the founation for the 2006/2007 fiscal year:

Community Awards were granted to:
  • Place Maillardville Society,
  • Theatrix,
  • Coquitlam Public Library,
  • Coquitlam Search and Rescue Society,
  • Roy Stibbs Elementary School and
  • the Royal Combian Hospital Foundation.
Scholarships and Bursaries were awarded to:
  • Abigail Arenas
  • Alynn Barclay
  • Josh Friesen
  • Dena Javadi
  • Kareen Wong
  • Jane Thomsing
Other grants:
  • Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation received a grant from the Shelagh Elaine Fulton Memorial Fund
  • The Vancouver General Hospital and the University of BC Hospital Foundation received a grant from the CAB Fund.

PRESS RELEASE - May 1, 2006

The Coquitlam Foundation held its annual awards reception on April 27th at the Evergreen Cultural Centre with $39,350.00 being awarded to nine community groups, six bursary recipients and one scholarship winner. Foundation Chair, Colleen Talbot, acted as Master of Ceremonies for the evening and Norm Cook, Chair of the Grants Committee announced the awards.

Community groups receiving funding were Arts Connect; B.C. Professional Firefighters' Burn Fund (Coquitlam); Children of the Street Society; Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation; Share Family and Community Services Society; Society for Community Development; Friends of the Coquitlam Public Library; Tri City Women's Resource Society and the Rivershed Society of B.C.

Gerri Wallis, Foundation Vice Chair, then presented Bursary Awards to 2006 to the following recipients; Shervin Ghavami, Tommy Chung, Chloe Porte lance, Kelly Chow, Elaheh Kahrobaee-Khorassani and Natasha Pittman. The Awards range in amount from $900.00 to $2,000.00.

Bill LeClair presented the Raymond A. LeClair Scholarship for $1500.00 to Andrea Baker. The Scholarship is in the name of Coquitlam's former City Manager and goes to a student planning to work in the public service.

Special recognition was given to former Mayor Jon Kingsbury for his service to the Foundation and Community. In his acceptance speech, he highlighted work of the Coquitlam Builders' Trust in supporting the Foundation for a number of years.

A special award was presented to Steve Vida by Mike McPhee, Chair of the Coquitlam Foundation Land Trust Committee. Steve has generously bequeathed his 1.8 acre property in Northeast Coquitlam to the Foundation. He was concerned about the future of his property and wanted it to be maintained in a natural state and used for education purposes. The Coquitlam Foundation has worked with The Land Conservancy of BC to pace a Conservation Covenant on his property to ensure the property is maintained according to Mr. Vida's wishes.

In concluding the formal part of the evening, Colleen Talbot, said "Tonight we have celebrated the high caliber of our Community organizations in Coquitlam" and she went on to say "It is a pleasure to be in a position to support such deserving students as they pursue post secondary education."


Each year the Coquitlam Foundation awards Community Grants, Scholarships and Bursaries although awards may not be provided in every category each year.

Community Grants
The Coquitlam Foundation is pleased to make available grant funds to Coquitlam organizations. Submissions in the following categories are invited but awards will not be necessarily be made in every category.
  1. Community Safety
  2. The Environment
  3. Wellness
  4. Education and Literacy
  5. Arts and Culture
  6. Heritage, Historical
  7. Children and Youth
Generally, the maximum available to one organization will be $3,500 and applicants must be registered charities. Application forms can be downloaded from this web site or obtained from Sue at 604-927-3006 at Guildford Way, Coquitlam, BC V3B 7N2.


The deadline for submissions is February 29th, 2008 at 4:00pm.

Raymond A. LeClair Memorial Scholarship Award
The LeClair Family and the Coquitlam Foundation, a philanthropic organization which works to meet the unmet needs of Coquitlam and its residents, have established a $1,500 award to help a deserving student who attends or will attend any accredited post secondary institution pursuing a career in the public service with priority given to those who pursue a career in public administration.

The successful applicant must:
  1. be a resident of the City of Coquitlam
  2. have achieved good academic standing
  3. have a history of school and community involvement
  4. demonstrate an ability to successfully undertake a program of studies
  5. attend an interview with the selection committee
  6. begin designated studies within eight months of formal notification of selection, and
  7. submit a written report upon completion of the applicable term of studies
Applications must include:
  1. a letter of application, which should include a statement outlining why the applicant merits the award
  2. completed application form
  3. a resume
  4. a copy of appropriate school transcript(s), and
  5. two letters of reference which address the student's ability to complete the course of studies proposed
